Support Kids-U

Hands On Teaching - 2What is Support the U?

Support the U is a capital campaign designed to raise $400,000 over 1.5 years to allow Kids-U to open 3 new sites in the North East Dallas Area. These new sites are specifically targeted apartment communities in a collaboration with Dallas Police Dept (DPD)NE Division. These communities are among the highest in crime, highest in poverty, and lowest in education in the city.  Our goal is to take our Kids-U program to those communities to reduce crime, fight poverty, and increase the level of education.  Kids-U is proud to announce the Harold Simmons Foundation has pledged $70,000 to this campaign over the next two years.

10-70-20 Crime Reduction

the 10-70-20 Crime Reduction Program is based on a simple theory that in any crime-ridden area, only 20 percent of the population causes problems. The rest of the people are law abiding, but only about 10 percent actively work with police to stop crime. The remaining 70 percent simply tolerate the bad conditions.  The 10-70-20 program works to take that 70% of tolerant residents, and make them intolerant advocates for crime reduction.

dcl_logo_2Adopt our Angels!

Some of the greatest memories of my life as a child were waking up Christmas morning and opening gifts Santa and my family left for me under the tree.  While I was a very lucky child most of the children at Kids-U are not so fortunate.  Without your help and the support of the community most of the children at Kids-U will wake up Christmas morning with no food to eat or gifts to open. How does it work, and how can you help?

Kids-U students will fill out a “wish list” that will have the top three things they want for Christmas.  Our goal is to get them one or all of those things for under $50.  The way we set this program up there are three ways you can participate.  You can look at our list of children and do the shopping yourself, bag or wrap the present and we will come pick it up or you can drop it off at our office.  Second you can donate $50 and designate it for a specific student and specific items, and our staff will do the shopping for you.  Finally you can join us on the Tuesday before the Christmas Party for a day of shopping where we as a staff, and a large group of volunteers head to Toys R US and have a ball getting all the kids wishes fulfilled.
